Maa Grace oppong BritwumMaa Grace o. Britwum

1940 - 2021

Share a special moment from Maa Grace's life.

Our mother, Grace Oppong Britwum, OGRAY or Maa as we affectionately called her, was our best friend, our favorite person we turn to for advice when the going gets tough.

The unconditional love she gave myself and my siblings still warms my heart up till now, and always will, but leaving so unannounced has left an empty void that time can never fill.

From heavens we know without a doubt you are still giving the love you always shared. I know you hear me talk to you all the time, just trying to find answers why you decided to leave without any signs.

Proverbs 31: 14, 15 She is like the merchant ships. She brings her food from afar. She also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants.

Our mother was the bread winner for her extended family. Not only did she cared for her own children, but she also opened her home to other families.

When I was in the boarding house during my secondary education, Maa brought me home cooked meals every weekend. We shared a strong bond.
I understood her taste and wants, and I made sure it was available to her before she will even request it, and as we grew older and became employed, we returned the favor by providing for her financially without her asking.
Maa, you have left us so unexpectedly. When you requested for akranti3 light soup on November 7th 2021, I retorted that’s your birthday’. You said it was a month away. I delivered it. I loved the way you enjoyed the meal. I requested for your blessings, like the Biblical story of Isaac’s time. You assured me that for blessings, you’d blessed me already. Maa you should have said more, at least to hint my brothers and sisters about your then pending journey to the Lord.
Or, your dream that you shared about 3 weeks later that, you were in an apartment where the people there, no one was talking to anyone. Everyone was doing his or her own thing. I should have been smart enough to have understood the message. However, you were so strong and full of life for me to think along that line.
Maa, you’ve been a wonderful mother, you’ve imparted so much to us. Your legacy still lives on. We console ourselves knowing that you are resting with the Lord.I had always wanted to fulfill one of her major wishes she had for me, and I am glad I was able to fulfill that for her before she passed. She always wanted me to be happy with my family wherever I found myself. She always says, I do not want you to be worried of anything after my death, so make sure you find yourself with someone you can rely on, and I think I fulfilled that for her.
Our mother was a devoted Christian. She belonged to the Assemblies of God Church in Koforidua. She was elected the women’s president at her church for several years. We will miss the video calls she used to have with our children almost every weekend.
Psalms 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
We will miss you forever, we will miss you for always. We will miss you every day, Maa for your guidance and your love, but we know you’re still watching silently and praying from above. If we had a flower for every time we thought of you, we could walk in our own gardens forever.
We love you Maa and always will.
