Jerry Wayne Moss, age 72, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, at his home in Pelham, with his wife, Sondra, and daughter, Stacey, by his side.


Born on April 2, 1953, Jerry was the son of the late William “Will” Moss and Thelma Bowers Moss. He was also preceded in death by his two sons, Ashley Wayne Moss and Jonathan Andrew “Drew” Moss.

Jerry grew up in the Cook Springs community of Pell City and attended Pell City High School. In 1971, he married Susan Lonergan, and together they raised three children. Jerry was an excellent and loving father, and because nurturing came so naturally to him, he was also a father figure to many others who needed it in their lives.

His professional life reflected his heart for service. Jerry began his career at The Baptist Home for Senior Citizens, now The Village at Cook Springs, where he served as administrator for many years. It was there that he discovered his life’s calling—caring for others with compassion and love. He went on to serve as administrator at several other nursing homes and also worked in home health for many years. Jerry was deeply passionate about ensuring that every patient received the highest quality of care, always with dignity and respect. He was admired by coworkers and staff for his fairness, kindness, and genuine care for people.

In 2001, Jerry married his beloved Sondra Smith Moss, and with her came a stepdaughter, Jamie McClinton Starns. Together, they enjoyed life, traveling, time with friends, and most of all, being “Pops” and “Nonnie” to their six grandchildren. Their favorite trips included Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and summer days at the beach—where Jerry joyfully experienced the ocean last summer with the help of a beach wheelchair.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Sondra; his daughters, Stacey (Erik) and Jamie (Alan); grandchildren Ivan, Halie, Payton, Stone, Corvin, and Zoe; great-grandson Waylon; brother Tommy (Ronda); sister Barbara “Bobbie” (Bobby); as well as many cousins, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and dear friends who loved him greatly.

11:00 AM.(75 Cogswell Ave / Pell City, AL 35125)


Pallbearers:  Alan Starns, Bobby Fleming, Erik Welch, Stone Welch, Corvin Welch, Josh Moss, Russell Drummonds, and Ezra Edwards.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE AT COOSA VALLEY BAPTIST CHURCH FELLOWSHIP HALL AT 1:00 PM.   (3607 Martin St S. / Pell City, AL 35054).
